What’s new at Ferrosilva
Dagens Industri published an article where they highlight that Swedich steel companies plan to feed their new electric arc furnaces with scrap and that the competitors in Europe, have similar plans. Therefore, the industry may face a scrap shortage. “The risk is that prices will rise, especially for new scrap,” says Sven Bäckström, who buys steel scrap for Swedish steel mills.

An article in Forbes describes a situation today, where we are facing a perfect storm with a global energy crisis layered on top of a climate emergency. The good news is it could accelerate the decarbonization of one of the world’s most carbon-intensive industries steelmaking, responsible for about 7-9% of global CO₂ emissions. Forbes highlights that FerroSilva's innovation stands out, giving the possibility to create negative carbon dioxide emission besides increasing resilience, as an enabler of the transformation of the steel industry.

In mid-December, the European Commission presented its actions for a clean and competitive automotive sector. FerroSilva welcomes the new action plan since it also adds pressure much more explicitly on green materials, and especially green steel.
